JUDGE NEAL On Friday morning last, at about 4 o’clock, Mrs. FANNIE NEAL, wife of Judge McCormick NEAL, died at her home in this city. This good lady was born in Covington, Oct. 7, 1835, joined the Methodist Church in 1850, married in 1853, and has been a faithful wife and zealous Christian worker for nearly 40 years. For many years past she has been organist at the Church here, teacher in a Sunday School Bible Class and President of the Ladies Memorial Association, besides holding other important positions in church societies. She discharged all her duties and faithfully and was honored and beloved by all who knew her. She was a friend of the poor and needy and never let an opportunity pass to do good. Mrs. NEAL was a daughter of the late Judge John J. FLOYD and during the 56 years of her sojourn in this city she only lived at two places, one was in her father’s home and the other at her husbands residence. Both these houses were dear to her, for by her kind and gentle deeds, in girlhood as well as wifehood, she made those about and around her happy. Mrs. NEAL had been in feeble health for months, but she endured her sufferings without complaint, and when the hour of death drew near she was calm and composed and expressed perfect willingness to submit to the will of her Lord and Master. She often said that she did not fear to die, and whether she lived or died, it would be all right. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Saturday in the presence of a large number of friends. Rev. R. J. BIGHAM paid a brief compliment to the life and character of Mrs. NEAL, and announced that he would preach the memorial sermon on Sunday morning, Oct. 11, at the Methodist Church here. Rev. T. J. SWANSON spoke at some length on the sweet life and noble deeds of this most excellent lady, while Rev. R. W. BIGHAM closed the services by paying and appropriate tribute to her useful and unselfish labors as a member of the church and a Christian worker. The city of Covington and the county of Newton mourn the death of our dear departed friend. She lived a life of righteousness and died with the blessed assurance that the reward promised the faithful awaited her in the spirit land. She leaves a husband, son and daughter and many relatives and friends to lament her loss and cherish her precious memory.
