J. Thompson died at his home, near Porterdale, Friday night, at eight o'clock after a weeks illness. He was buried at Salem Cemetery Sunday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. Drake, pastor of the Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson was 75 years of age and had made his home in Newton County for the past twenty years, coming here from Henry County. He leaves a wife and nine children, Mrs. B. T. McHugh, Madison; E. R. Thompson, Porterdale; W. V. Thompson, Bremen; J. Z. Thompson, Atlanta and D. M., H. C., R. W., Thompson, Mrs. E. E. Johnson and Miss Evie May Thompson, of Covington. Aug. 1925 Additional Comments: William's wifes name was Octavia K. Rape Thompson. Children's full names: Mary (Molly) Thompson McHugh, Edgar R. Thompson, William Vester Thompson, James Zachry Thompson, David M. Thompson, Hezekiah Columbus (Lum) Thompson, Raymond Wood Thompson, Rose Thompson Johnson and Evie May Thompson.
