Although she had been sick some time, her death was unexpected and cast a gloom over the whole community. Indeed, how could it have been otherwise? One among us, so gentle and loving as “ Aunt Mellie” cannot fail to be missed. Mrs. Pitts was good and faithful in various relations of life; a good wife, kind and affectionate mother, and a blessing to the community in which she lived. God only knows how we miss her loving counsels. She leaves a husband and two children to mourn her departure. Her remains were interred Saturday afternoon in the Newborn Cemetery, and were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sympathizing friends and relatives. The funeral services were conducted, by Revs. J. J. Ansley and James Harwell.
