Deaths in Hopewell Community
  We are being sorely bereaved, on last Saturday Mr. John Sullivan,
one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this part of the
county died at the full age of eighty years. He was born and reared
in Fairfield Co. S. C., But for more than half a century has been
a citizen of Newton county.
  He was a man of more than ordinary intelligence and of wide 
information. During his later years he visited much and imparted
with much profit to his friends the knowledge he had acquired.
  He was an elder in Hopewell church for more than thirty years
faithfully filled different positions of responsibility.
  Mrs. Asbury McDaniel, of Dodge county, Mr. J. J. Sullivan, a
prosperous merchant of Texas, and our fellow citizen, Mr. T. T.
Sullivan, survive to treasure the memory of this now sainted father.
  Just as the sun was setting on Sunday Mr. James W. Blanton another
of our useful citizens passed away. Six days before dreaded pneu-
monia touched him and he fell under its slaying power. He was in the
prime of life and usefulness, a member of the Methodist church at
Salem, quiet, upright, godly.
  A wife and a seven year old son are left in sorrows tears, yet
even in these tears shine the beautiful rainbow colors of hope, the
dawning light of reunion day.
  Yet again on Monday night came death to the home of Mr. Thos.
Stewart and his sister, Miss Amanda quietly breathed her last.
