E. Butler, Clark county, Ga., January 9th, 1874, after a few days suffering, of Pneumonia, Mr. JOHN T. SAWYER, in the twenty sixth year of his age. Our young friend lost his wife and only child some four years ago. He was moral and upright, high toned and honorable in all his dealings. A short time before his death, business called him away. He was sick when he left. As soon as it was accomplished, he started for home, reaching the hospitable residence of a stranger, where all was done by the kind hands and willing hearts of the family and neighbors to alleviate his sufferings. Only one relative- an uncle reached him in time to witness his departure. He left undoubted testimony of his reconciliation and preparation for the change. From a letter, written a few months before his death to a relative, he seems to have had a premonition that he should die away from home among strangers, yet felt that all would be well. May his dear mother--his father died several years ago--who was so unexpectedly called to weep over her noble son- her first born- be supported under this trying ordeal; and may his brothers and sister imitate his noble deportment and his many virtues. He leaves sorrowing relatives and a host of true friends. The family remembers with gratitude the kindly offices of those who so tenderly cared for their loved one. W. S. M.
