Winfield Scott died at his home in this city, Tuesday morning, April 5th. Aged about 64 years. He had been sick for some time, but bore his afflictions patiently. He was a kind and social man, being always ready to do what he could for others. He remained rational up to the time of his death. In his last hours he expressed a willingness to meet his Lord. He said he had been weak and frail, had often erred, but all was well with him now. He leaves a devoted wife an affectionate adopted daughter and many friends to lament his death. It is said that he had a $5,000 insurance policy on his life. May the dear old General sleep sweetly. In life he was our friend. In death we (The remainder of this sentence is illegible.)
