W.S. SCRUGGS At four o'clock last Friday morning death suddenly claimed Mr. Walter Sherman Scruggs, for thirty six years manager of the Postal Telegraph office in Covington and dean of managers in this district. Mr. Scruggs 57 came to Covington as an operator on the Georgia Railroad several years before his connection at the Postal. For all these years he has been a valued employee of the Postal and valuable citizen of Covington, always obliging, always at his post and possessing that most valuable of characteristic in such position of trust, absolute fidelity to his clients and his company. No confidential message ever "leaked out" of the Postal Office. He is survived by the widow who was Miss Lucy Levy, daughter of Captain Levy, a well known jeweler, one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Scruggs Hope of Union, S.C., widow of a prominent physician of that city, four brothers, William of Norwood where Mr. Scruggs was born; John of Thomson; Edgar of Macon; Robert of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Annie S. McDaniel of Dublin, and Mrs. Estelle Lowery of Eastman. The funeral services were held at his late residence in Covington. R. ? Combs and Allgood officiating and the remains taken to Union, S. C. where both Mrs. Scruggs and the daughter will make their home in the future. Twenty representatives of the Postal staff headed by Mr. Wheeler who represented Mr. J. C. ?, District Superintendent, Messrs. R. W. Ballard, John King, Arthur Whelchel, J. C. Upshaw, E. S. Stevens, L. H. Smith and Burney Chapman were the active pallbearers and a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Tuck, Mrs. John Callaway and C. J. Norman sang. Stillwell and Everitt morticians were in charge.
