MR. JOSEPH SOCKWELL DEAD
     On Saturday last, Dec. 11, Mr. Joseph Sockwell died at his home 4 miles 
from Covington. Aged about 82 years. He was one of the oldest and best known 
men in Newton county, and was a sociable and hospitable gentleman. Mr. Sockwell 
was a man of honor and integrity, who met his obligations promptly. He loved 
his family and friends and did all in his power to make life pleasant for those 
around him. His body was laid to rest in the family cemetery near his home on 
Sunday. Peace to the memory and rest to the soul of our dear old friend, Good-
hearted, big-hearted “Uncle Joe”.
