The Georgia Enterprise, August 2, 1888
     It gives us pain to chronicle the death of Mr. Jno. P. Upshaw, an aged and 
honored citizen of Walton County, which sad event transpired at his home near 
Social Circle, one day last week. He was the father of Col. W. S. Upshaw, of 
Covington. He was a useful man, a man of high integrity and a man who will be 
missed by his county and his people. He leaves his county and his people. He 
leaves friends and loved ones all over the state to mourn his departure and 
lament his demise. May flowers of beauty ever bloom upon his grave.
