DEATH OF G. W. WOOD
     Mr. George Washington Wood, a prominent and respected citizen of Newton 
County died at his home, on route 3, Friday, September 10 at 7:30 A. M., after 
a useful life of 74 years. He was born in Clarke County, Sept 6, 1850, but had 
resided in Newton for many years. His wife died three years ago.
     Mr. Wood is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Josephine Boone of Jersey, 
Mrs. Mattie Harris, of Atlanta, Mrs. Norma E. McCord of Covington, Mrs. 
Pearline Frank of Birmingham, Mrs. Irene Lee of Florida and Mrs. Clara Hill, of 
Atlanta; three sons, Hugh of Texas, Clarence of Covington and Lawrence of 
Atlanta and twenty-two grandchildren.
     The funeral was held Saturday at the Corinth Church, the cortege going 
from the home to the church, where  Rev. W. R. McDonald, the pastors officiated 
in the presence of the relatives and the many sorrowing friends and neighbors 
of the deceased.
