C. Wright On Thursday last at 11 a. m., Mr. COLUMBUS C. WRIGHT, one of the oldest and best men in Newton County, died at the home of his son, Dr. _. B. Wright, in Covington. Aged about 79 years. For some time past he had been in feeble health, but until very recently he was up and about. Mr. Wright was a Christian gentleman and had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church for a long number of years. He was a Master Mason and loved the Order next to the Church. He was kind-hearted and benevolent, true to his family, his friends and his country. He was a man of high honor and unquestioned integrity. He lived right and he died right. He had time and time again expressed his willingness to meet his Lord and Master, and death for him was but the beginning of a new and better life. He leaves a wife, children, grandchildren and many loved ones here and elsewhere to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church here Friday. Presiding Elder R. J. Bigham, delivered an appropriate oration on the life and character of this good and true man. His Masonic brethren took charge of the body and carried it to Oxford where it was laid to rest with Masonic Honors in the family section of the town cemetery. Peace to the memory and rest to the soul of our dear departed friend. ******************************************************************************** The Georgia Enterprise, May 28, 1891 Tribute of Respect To the W. M. and Warden of Golden Fleece Lodge NO. 6 F. A. M. Again are we called upon to mourn the loss of one of our members. Death has again invaded our ranks; again has the Mystic Circle been broken, another link _____ from the chain that links our hearts in fraternal love and sympathy. This time the dread enemy took from our number one of our oldest, truest, and most devoted members. One ripe in years and rich in Christian experience, whose life imparted splendid illustration of the principles of our order. When COLUMBUS C. WRIGHT heard and answered the summons of the Grand Master to sever his connection with the Subordinate and to unite with the Grand Lodge above, earth became poorer, heaven richer. It is no unmerited tribute to his memory to declare that, in all the relations of life, he was true, honest and faithful. He practiced, in his daily walk, the principal tenets of Masonry. He was a true man, a devoted husband, fond father, an earnest and devout Christian. No higher eulogy could be passed upon his character. May the membership of this lodge catch the inspiration of his simple, trusting faith, his purity of life, and his faithful devotion to our principles. We submit the following resolutions as expressive of our sorrow for its death, and our appreciation of his virtues: Resolved 1st. That in the death of Bro. Wright our lodge has lost a faithful and devoted member, and our order one of its best and brightest exemplars. 2nd. That these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of our lodge, and that a copy be furnished the family, of our deceased brother. 3rd. That our lodge be draped in the usual emblems of mourning. Respectfully submitted. W. P. ANDERSON, J. A. WRIGHT, J. G.
