George Foster Pierce was 3rd President of Emory College, Oxford, Newton Co., GA 
from 1848-1854. Born: 3 Feb. 1811, GA.  Died: 3 Sep. 1884, Sparta, GA.  Son of  
Rev. Lovick Pierce and Ann Martin Foster.  Married Ann Maria Waldroon of NY 4 
Feb 1834, Chatham Co., GA.  He was a Methodist minister in GA and SC, elected 
bishop in 1854.
