SOCKWELL-UPSHAW
     Mr. Charles A. Sockwell, of Covington, was united in marriage to Miss 
Jessie Upshaw, of Social Circle, on Wednesday, June 2nd.   Rev. G. W. Duval 
officiated. A number of special friends from Newton and Walton counties 
attended the marriage. The groom is a young man of pleasant address-- is a 
prosperous farmer, active business man, and is deservedly popular. The bride is 
a most excellent and charming young lady possessing grace, beauty and culture 
and dearly beloved by all who know her. The bridal party returned to Covington 
on the afternoon train and went at once to the elegant home of Mr. and Mrs. E. 
O. Lee, where Mr. and Mrs. Sockwell will board for the present. Thursday a 
brilliant reception and magnificentdinner was tendered the couple at the 
hospitable home of the groom’s father, Hon. J. W. Sockwell, one of our County 
Commissioners. May peace and plenty health and prosperity bless this blissful 
union.
     In noting this happy event the Social Circle Sentry says; “Miss Jessie is 
one of the most cultured and refined young ladies in the state, and since her 
debut in society has been much admired for her intellectual qualities and 
charming personality. We congratulate Mr. Sockwell in winning such a lovely 
bride. Mr. Sockwell is a prosperous young business man of Covington. The many 
beautiful and costly presents attested to their popularity.”
