Georgia Enterprise, November 18, 1897
MARRIAGE AT NEWBORN
     A Newborn special to the Atlanta Constitution dated Nov. 10th says: “The 
staid and sober-minded denizens of our quiet village received a real stir on 
yesterday by the brilliance of the assembly congregated at the beautiful 
residence of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Pitts, where a reception and dining was given 
to the friends and visitors of the family, in honor of the approaching marriage 
of their beautiful and accomplished daughter, Sadie, to Mr. H. H. Gray, of 
Barnesville. The marriage occurred this morning at 9 o’clock. It was a 
beautiful ceremony, pronounced by the Rev. Mr. Bush, president of the Andrew 
Female college. The attendants were Misses Allen Pitts, sister of the bride, 
Nannette Carter, Mabell Davis and Maggie Gunn, of Macon; Foncie Candler, Oxford 
and May Childs, Newborn; and the Messrs. Reid Hunt, F. F. Stephenson, R. Homes, 
Dr. W. W. Cox and Mr. Turner, all of Barnesville.”
