Mr. Doggett, because of his lovable personality, kindness and generosity to all with whom he was associated, was known and called "Pappy" by his family and countless friends throughout northeast, Ga. Henry Hillman Doggett joined the forces of the Confederacy at the age of sixteen, serving with Major Cook's battalion from Clarke county. After the war he returned to Oconee county where he was married to Miss Alma Belle Ward, who preceded him in death by 8 years. "Pappy" remained actively engaged in his farm interests until about ten years ago when his eyes began to fail him and he was forced to retire. However, he never lost interest in the affairs of his state and the nation. He was much concerned about the present war and followed its progress closely. Mentally alert to the end, he sat upon his bed and discussed the Japanese war with his family a few days before his death. Funeral services were held at the home of H. C. Johnson, at 2 o'clock (CWT). Burial followed in the Griffith cemetery, Oconee county. Surviving Mr. Doggett are two children, Mrs. J. A. Puckett, Athens, and F. A. Doggett, Oxford, GA, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Additional Comments: Correct spelling of his spouse's full name is Mary Alma Bell Ward. The cemetery is the Hopkins-Delay Cemetery on Hebron Church Rd. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
