Bradford Willis Cary Hull Smith (September 28, 1821-September 22, 1902) was the brother of Anthony Garnett Smith, Jr., a pioneer Upson County and Talbot County, Georgia. They were the sons of the Rev. Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Allen Smith. The following sketch of Cary Hull Smith and his family was compiled in the 1920s from the records of Sidney Daniel Smith: "Cary Hull Smith, the son of Anthony Garnett Smith, Sr., was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was the last born of ten children and when five years old moved to Crawford County, Georgia with his father. He married Sarah Amanda Jackson (1829-1900), the youngest child of Edmund and Clara Jackson, and ten children were born to them. He purchased a farm adjoining his father’s, and after living there a few years, moved to the town of Culloden to educate his children, living there from 1857 until 1870 when he returned to his farm. After all their children married and they were up in age, they lived with their children. Amanda died at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Dollie Deyerle, in 1900. Cary died at the home of Mrs. Sarah Searcy, also a daughter, in 1902." The children of Cary Hull Smith and Sarah A. Jackson Smith were: Henry Garnett: Born Aug. 2, 1846, died Jan. 2, 1914 at Italy, Texas, married Nancy Wooten. An Infant: Died March 11, 1849. Edmund Jackson: Born Apr. 13, 1850, died Jan. 9, 1919, married Martha Johanna Smith. Sidney Daniel: Born Aug. 19, 1851, married Alice Amelia Rockwell, June 17, 1886. Dollie Harris: Born Feb. 16, 1854, died Aug. 10, 1900, married A. B. Deyerle. Mary Louisa: Born Nov. 25, 1859, married Henry Ramsey of Brooks Co., Ga. Hull: Born Dec. 14, 1862, died Apr. 8, 1907, in Columbia, S.C., married Annie Sadler of Denmark, S.C. Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth: Born Feb. 25, 1865, married John S. Searcy of Thomasville, Ga. Wilkins Wesley: Born Apr. 5, 1870, died May 7, 1885, of typhoid fever. Clara Johanna: Born Sept. 12, 1871, died Oct. 25, 1871. Recently, Anthony Joseph Smith, Jr. and Robert Lee Smith of Florida visited the graves of Cary Hull Smith and Sarah A. Jackson Smith at the Boston Cemetery in Thomas County, Georgia. They took these photographs of the old grave markers. Appreciation is expressed to them for visiting this historic cemetery and preserving some the Cary Hull Smith family heritage with these images.
