Died 20 October 1834, Oglethorpe County Georgia. Son of Robert (1) and a woman named Elizabeth “Betty” ??. A headstone indicating that Larkin is buried at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery. Andrews Kilpatrick; married Frances E.G. Smith (a cousin) NOTE: Chesley and Miranda Arnold are brother and sister. Pension Number S-31974 Larkin’s Bible History of Oglethorpe County Georgia and Supplements I & II, by Mrs. Florrie Carter Smith At the age of 17, Larkin’s name appears on the Company Muster Roll of Capt. Charles Fleming’s Company, the 7th Virginia Regiment of Foot, commanded by Alexander McClenachan, Esq. During February 1778, his company marched to Valley Forge to join General Washington’s command. Larkin served in the following units. Lt. Col. Heth’s company of the 3rd and 7th. Regiment of Foot, Continental Line (CL) Capt. Baytops company, 5th Virginia Regiment, CL, commanded by Col. William Russell Capt. Fleming’s company, 7th Batt’n of the Virginia Forces, commanded by Lt. Col. Hold Richeson. The 7th Virginia Regiment of Foot, commanded by Alexander McClenachan. Larkin was in only one battle. That was at the battle of Monmouth County, near Freehold New Jersey. The battle took place on 28 June 1778. The battle at Monmouth is considered to be the largest artillery battle of the Rev War. Larkin is also located at Valley Forge, White Plains, Pompton Plains and Middlebrook. His second and third tour of duty was performed in Virginia, North Carolina and South Caroline. Collecting supplies and guarding prisoners. He was at Jamestown when the French landed. Larkin applied for a pension on 3 September 1832, stating that he was 73 or 74 years of age. His bible places his birth in 1760. Larkin’s brother Robert testified as to his age and service.
