All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Troy Colquitt telles@elberton.net September 18, 2007, 4:44 pm Written: 1801 Samuel Colquitt to Nelson Wilson Deed Book D page 180and 181 Oglethorpe County, Georgia This indenture made the first day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and one Between Samuel Colquitt of the state of Georgia and County of Oglethorpe & Nelson Wilson of the State and County aforesaid Witnesseth that the said Samuel Colquitt for and in consideration of the Two hundred and Forty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said Wilson The receipt Whereof he doth hereby Acknowledge hath Bargained Sold and Confirmed and doth by these presents Bargain Sell and Confirm unto the said Wilson his heirs and assigns forever a Certain Tract or Parcel of land Containing by Estimation of One hundred and Twenty acres be the same more or less lying and being in the County of Oglethorpe on the waters of Indian Creek. Beginning at a hickory corner and running from, thence to a pine corner, & from thence to a Post Oak Corner, & from Thence to a Black Jack Corner, & from thence to the Beginning Corner All the Profits Advantages Appurtenances Whatsoever to the said Tract or Parcel of Land belonging or in any Wise Appertaining & the Reversion Reversions Remainder Remainders rents and Profits thereof and also all the Estate right Title Interest Claims and reason whatsoever of him the said Samuel Colquitt of in and to the same & every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the Said Tract of Land & premises herein before Mentioned With all and Singular the appurtenances unto the Said Nelson Wilson his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Nelson Wilson his heirs and assigns forever & the said Colquitt & his heirs the said Tract or parcel of Land and Premises above Mentioned With the appurtenances to the said Wilson his heirs and assigns against him the said Samuel Colquitt his heirs & every other person and persons Whatsoever Shall and Will Warrant and forever Defend by these Presents. P H. Ector J.P. ( Compilers note: Samuel Colquitt married Molly Woodruff and Nelson Wilson married Susannah Woodruff, Clifford Woodruff’s daughters. Rachel Colquitt married A.B.S.D Wilson. Rachel could be the daughter of Samuel Colquitt and A.B .S.D Wilson could be the son of Nelson Wilson. They all lived in Walker County, Georgia at some point in time, 1840 and beyond.) Additional Comments: Samuel Colquitt to Nelson Wilson to the Oglethorpe and Walker county, Ga. sites. Other deeds: (1) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book G page 362, Sept. 19th, 1811, Nelson Wilson of Randolph County, Ga.,sells his land in Oglethorpe County, Ga., to Martin S. Davenport. Witnesses were: C. Woodruff and Elisha Woodruff. Randolph County later became Jasper County. (2) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book H page 181, Nov.26th, 1812, Mordicia Hill from Jones County, Ga. for natural affection to his son in-law, Elisha Woodruff and my daughter, Polly Woodruff, gives a Negro girl named Dilly to them. Witnesses were: Zepheniah Harvey J.P., Cyrus White and Pleasant White. (3) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book H page 154 Nov. 26th 1812, in the 37th year of Sovernity and Independence of the United States of America, Mordicia Hill from Jones County, Ga., for natural affection to his son in-law, Willian Jennings and Rhoda, his wife, gives a Negro named Joseph to them. Witnesses were: Zepheniah Harvey J.P., Cyrus White and Pleasant White. (4) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book G pages 235 and 236, Dec. 17th, 1811. Mordicai Hill sells 70 acres to Andrew Creighton, joining lands of Clifford Woodruff and Hezekiah Luckie. Witnesses were: Nancy Pope, Jesse Mckinne Pope, J.P. (5) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book P page 149 and 150 Sept. 15th, 1835. Elisha Woodruff sold to William Collins 100 acres, Oglethorpe Co., Ga. Witness was David M. Patman. (6) Deed book Q page 80 Nov. 5th, 1840. Benjamin Woodruff as Executor of the Clifford Woodruff Estate gave Clifford's son, Elisha Woodruff one hundred acres of land. This was a deed to clear title and was sold to Richard Phillips by William Collins. Deed recorded Feb. 7th, 1842. Witnesses were: Wm. McKinley and Clifford Woodruff. (7) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed book E page 317 Feb. 4th, 1808. Mordicai Hill sold Samuel Brightwell 179 acres on the waters of Beaverdam Creek. Witnesses were Samuel Colquitt and William Andrews. (8) Oglethorpe Co., Ga., Deed Book Q page 73 Jan. 3rd, 1840. Benjamin Woodruff of Walton County, Ga., as Executor of the Clifford Woodruff Estate sells 216 acres on the headwaters of Millstone Creek to William Collins. Witnesses were: Joseph Gresham, D.W. Patman and Willis Willingham. (9) Oglethorpe Co., Ga. Deed Book D pages 284 and 285 July 12th, 1801. Miles Gathright from Jackson Co., Ga. to Bennett Wilson 200 acres on the waters of Millstone Creek. Witnesses were:Wilson Woodruff, Elisha Woodruff and Clifford Woodruff.
