All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Collins collins@negia.net July 23, 2003, 4:21 pm Written: January 16 1807 Recorded: August 13 1807 Oglethorpe County, Deed Book E, page 193-194 This Indenture made this Sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & seven between Groves Howard & Lucy his wife of the one part & John Davenport of the other part all of the County of Oglethorpe & State of Georgia Witnesseth that the said Groves Howard & Lucy his wife hath for & in consideration of the sum of One hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said John Davenport before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold released & confirmed unto the said John Davenport & by these presents do grant bargain sell &confirm unto the said John Davenport one certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County of Oglethorpe & being part of the tract of land whereon the said Groves Howard now lives Bounded as follows. Beginning at a white oak corner running S 20 18 chs. 50. to a dogwood corner thence N 60 E 2 ch. 50 lks to a pine corner N. 17 W 16 ch to a Gum Corner N 36 E. 5 ch. To a C.O. corner N. 65 W. 6 chs. to a B. O. corner on a branch thence up said branch S. 80 (?) .10 to R.O. corner 6 chs. thence S. 51.10 6ch. 50 Lks to the beginning containing twenty seven acres be the Same more or less & adjoining the lands of the said Howard James Davenport & Thomas Merriwether. Together with all & singular the rights members & appertenances thereof whatsoever to the said tract of land & premises being belonging or in any wise appertaining & the remainders reversions rents issues & profits thereof & every part thereof. To have and to hold the said tract of land & all & singular the premises and appertenances thereunto belonging as aforesaid & every part thereof unto the said John Davenport his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use benefit & behoof of him the said John Davenport his heirs & assigns forever And the said Groves Howard & Lucy his wife & their heirs the said tract of land & premises aforesaid & every part thereof unto the said John Davenport his heirs & assigns against them the said Groves Howard & Lucy his wife & their heirs & against all & every other person or persons whatsoever shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof the said Groves Howard & Lucy his wife have hereunto set their hands & affixed their Seals the day & year first above written Signed Sealed & acknowledged in the presence of Valentine Merriwether Groves Howard Wm Glenn Clement Glenn J.P. 13th August 1807 Oglethorpe County This day Lucy Howard wife of Groves Howard did separately & apart from her said Husband did fully & voluntarily relinquish her right of dower to the within lands & premises.
