This file was contributed by: Troy Colquitt telles@elberton.net ==================================================================== Deed Book B-pages 298-299 Oglethorpe County Georgia Robert Smith to John Colquitt This Indenture Made This twenty fourth day of July in the year of our lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Seven between Robert Smith of the County of Cumberland and State of Virginia of the one Part and John Colquitt of the said County and State as above Mentioned of the other Part Witinesseth That the said Robert Smith for and in the Consideration of the sum of two hundred Pounds good and lawful Money of this State hath bargained and Sold unto him The said John Colquit and do by these Presents grant bargain sell and confirm unto him the said John Colquit his heirs and assigns forever the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and my self fully Satisfied all that tract of land of four hundred Acres lying and being in the County of Oglethorpe and state of Georgia on the Golden Grove Creek and Begineth and followeth at a Post Oak Corner Running N. ten Degrees W. fifty five Chains to a Post Oak Thence S. Eighty W. three Chains to a Dogwood Thence N. ten W. fifty Chains to a pine Thence N. Eighty East forty Chains to a Hickory Thence S. ten East crossing the above Mentioned Creek one hundred and five Chains to a Post Oak Thence S. Eighty W. thirty six Chains to the beginning Corner Post Oak together with all and singular the appurtenance to the same belonging in anywise appertaining thereto. To have and to hold the afore said land with its advantages unto him the Said John Colquit his heirs and forever he the Said Robert Smith will further agree to and with him the Said John Colquit that he the Said Robert Smith his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns Shall and will Defend the Just Right and Title of the aforesaid four hundred Acres of Land and Premises unto him the Said John Colquit his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns forever free from the Claim or Claims of All and every Person or persons Whatever in Testimony Whereof he the Said Robert Smith hath hereunto Set his hand and Seal the day and Year first above written. This John Colquitt moved to Oglethorpe Co. Ga. after This date (1797) and died there in 1800 )
