I live in Hill County on the road leading from Corsicana to Waco, on the half way crossroads 30 miles f rom either place. I think I am settled for life. I told you I think in my other letter about the death of your grandmah. She had been dead one year. the name was Louvisa Marion. She died a Christian. About one hour before her death she spoke of your poor mah -- your mah was my darling child Elizabeth Franklin. I delight to write her name, her picture is before me. I want you to send me yours without fail. I thank God Mr. J. Aldridge is my grandson-in-law now. Lucas to Margaret Aldridge Hill County Texas November the 20, 1871 "Dear Grand Children, Yours of the 28 Oct 1871 just came to hand last evening found us all well. May those few imperfections find you all well and reconsile to the providence of him who hold the destinys of all in his own hands. We enter fully in to your feelings and roop the sympathing tears with you in your affectionate sweet babe, free from earths afflication which are manney. The Lord giveth and taketh away blessd by the name of the Lord. I pray God that a fliction may be for the good of your souls, all earthly things pop away and leaveth not a shadow. Heaven is true and the joys lasting. Dear children lay hoald of christ and realize that he is a present help in time of need. Manney children died here last Year, hear with the same disease your Aunt Susan lost a bitifull girl then and her only child. "I have just finished our new house it is a good and comodious house jost on the half way ground between Waco and Corsicana 30 miles to either place. I am intending to open a house for the traveling community. I am getting late hardly able to folow the plow rheumatism in my right knee My wife is afflicted in the same way I have 70 acres open land I am trying to fence 20 acres more this winter time would be good there were it not for the wicked opreshion of the present government. Letter, Phin Lucas to Mr. and Mrs. Aldredge Hubbard City, Hill County, Texas Feb 13th 1885 "Mr and Mrs Aldredge, Dear nephew and niece no doubt you will be surprise to receive a letter from me we are all well I hope you are enjoying the same good blessing. I haven't any news to write except the sad news of the death of my father, your grandfather, he died the thirty first day of last December 1884. He lived about one hundred and seventy miles from here. I have been down there (Fayette Co Tx to attend to settling the his business. the estate was valued at six thousand dollars your granma will hold one half which will leave three thousand dollars to be equally divided between his eight children: your mother's children are entitled to one eight of the three thousand. You can save the expense of a Lawyer fee by sending me Power of Attourney. Your granma is your granfather's third wife. they have no children. Let me hear from you as early as possible. the relation are all well as or was the last I heard from them. We all send our love to you and family I have written all of your brothers and sisters. Lucas Estate Fayette County, Texas M. E. Lucus et all 10 December 1885 vs unknown persons 3821 This day this cause comming on to be heard the plaintiffs M. E. Lucas, P. M. Lucus, G. M. Lucus, B. M. Lucas, N. C. Lucas, a G. J. Posey, Wm. Posey of the State of California and county of San Joaquin who now make themselves plaintiffs by leave of the Court also John M. Posey, LIvisa Byhom of Jackson in the State of Orregan who also by leave of the Court make themselve parties plaintiffs. Also came the defendants who have been duly cited by publication as required by law whose residences and names are unknown appearing by their Guardian ad litem B. F. Dunn Esq appointed by the Court the parties announced ready for trial, no jury having been demanded the matter of law as well of fact were submitted to the Court, who after hearing the pleadings evidence and argument of Counsel doth find the following facts: 1st That the plaintiff M. E. Lucas and B. E. Lucas were husband and wife. That B. E. Lucas departed this life in Fayette Co. Texas where they resided intestate. That there has been no administration upon his estate, and that no cause exist for said administration and that all property both personal and real and mixed described in plaintiffs petition was community property between said M. E. Lucas and her husband B. E. Lucas deceased. II. That the said B. E. Lucas deceased had by a former marriage the following named children as heirs at law entitled to take and share equally his said Estate, to wit: P. F. M. Lucas, George Lucas, B. M. Lucas, N. C. Lucas, Susan Lucas, Elizabeth Lucas, J. M. Lucas, and Josephine Lucas. That the said Susan Lucas intermarried with one Thomas Barber by whom she had one child. That she married a second time, but name of husband and his residence is unknown and whether living or dead is unknown. That Elizabeth F. intermarried with one E. W. Randolph by whom she had one childre to wit: Mrs. Aldridge, Woodbridge. That the said Elizabeth F. and her husband are dead, and the residence of Mrs Hedidge Woodbrige, is unkown and it is also unknown whether she be living or dead, that the said E. F. intermarried the second time Jeremiah Posey who is also dead by whom she had the following children, G. J. Posey, Wm. Posey, John Posey, Livica A. Bigham. That J. M. Lucas is dead. That he left the following children minors, Wm Jack Old and Frank Lucas who sue by their next friend their mother Sarah A. Lucas. That Josephine who is now dead married one John Barber leaving one chlld, whose name and residence are unknown and its unknown whether said child is living or dead. III The Court doth further find and adjudge and decree that the said M. E. Lucas as the surviving widow of B. E. Lucas is entitled to one half of all the property both real and personal described in plaintiffs petitin which is more fully described herein after, the said P. F. M. Lucas is entitled to one Sixteenth of same. That G. M. Lucas is entitled to one Sixteenth of same. That B. M. Lucas is entitled to one Sixteenth of same. That N. C. Lucas is entitled to 1/16th of same. That said minors Wm Jack Old and Frank Lucas as children and heirs of J. M. Lucas deceased are entitled to 1/16th. The said Sarah A. Lucas as surviving widow of J. M. Lucus being entitled to one third life interst therof. That the said Josephine LUcas or her issue unknown heirs aforesaid are entitled to 1/16th of same. Barber Garner) State of Texas County of HIll personally appeared before me the undersigned authority Mrs. Dink Garner who upon oath, says that she is a Grand daughter of B. E. LUcas deceased, who died in Fayette Co. Texas and whose Estate was partitioned amoung his heirs in the District Court of Fayette in the case of P. F. M. Lucus et als vis M. E. Lucus and the unknown heirs of B. E. Lucas. Affiant says that she is the only lving descendant of Josephine Lucas and who subsequently married ____Barber, and that she is the only heir of the said Josephine and is the child of Josephine referred to in the Decree of partition vs the one whos name and wherebouts were unknown, and that she is entitled to recieve the money set apart to her by the Court and now in the hands of special commisioner John B.
