All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Transcribed by Jeanne Arguelles ejarguelles@msn.com Isaac Hicks Revolutionary Pension Application State of Georgia Oglethorpe County In the Inferior Court of Oglethorpe County - On this twenty first day of June 1824 personally appeared in open court being a court of record of said county Isaac Hicks aged sixty six years and a resident of the aforesaid county of Oglethorpe who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th of March 1818 and the first of May 1820. That he the said Isaac Hicks enlisted for the time of two years & six months on the sixteenth day of April in the year 1776 in the State of North Carolina in the company commanded by Captain John Dickerson of the light horse in the regiment commanded by Col. Arch. Lych in the Line of the State of N. Carolina on the Continental establishment. That he continued to serve in the said corps until 16th Oct 1778 when he was discharged from the said service in Halifax in the State of North Carolina. It appears from his original here with shown to the court & which he intends transmitting to Washington with his application signed by Nicholas Long deputy quartermaster General - that he was in several skirmishes with tories but no general battle and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services except his said discharge. And, in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820 I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it so to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval services of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 18th day of March 1818. And that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income other than is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. Isaac Hicks The said Isaac Hicks further saith that he is by occupation or trade a Cabinet Workman but from a ---- in his eye sight which has failed him for several years past so that he cannot pursue his trade at all. That his family consist of himself aged sixty six years, his wife Elizabeth Hicks aged sixty one years, & his son William Hicks aged twenty years - that he has no land except two lots of pine c--- land in Early County in Georgia which he has offered for & cannot obtain thirty dollars. That he never has been upon any pension roll never having made any application before this time. Isaac Hicks Sworn to & subscribed in open court this 21st day of June 1824. Baldwin State of Georgia Oglethorpe County On this 20th day of June 1825 personally appeared in open court being a court of record for the county aforesaid Isaac Hicks resident in said county aged sixty seven year, who being duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th March 1818 and the first of May 1820. That he the said Isaac Hicks enlisted for the term of two & one half years, on the 16th day of April in the year 1776 in the State of North Carolina in the company commanded by Captain John Dickerson in the regiment commanded by Colonel Archibald Little in the line of the State of North Carolina on the Continental establishment, that he continued to serve in the said corps until the 16th day of October 1778 when he was discharged from the service in Halifax County in the State of North Carolina, that he hereby relinquishes any claim whatever to a pension except the present, that his name is not on roll of any State except the State of North Carolina, and that the following are the reasons for not making earlier application for a pension. That since the law was passed, there has been no change in his property, that he followed a mechanical trade by which he supported himself until Rheumatic pains & a failure of eyesight prevented, & this is the reason for his not making an early application for a pension. And in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820, I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner disposed of my property, or any thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval services of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 18th day of March 1818. And that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income other than is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. That since the 18th of March 1818 the following changes have been made in my property This deponent has kept no particular account of the property owned by him - being confined ---- to articles of his trade, which he disposed of as soon generally as made in order to procure mainly a sustenance. Sworn to & subscribed on the 20th day of June before the Justices of the Inferior Court of said county & State.
