Sunday, May 23, 1869 

A Bloody Murder - Samuel Hardeman, living in Oglethorpe County, Glade's 
District, was murdered about two weeks ago, about five miles from his house, 
between Grove's Creek and Cloud's Creek. He had just received about $1,500 in 
money, proceeds of sales of cotton, and had started to Danielsville to pay a 
debt. No clue has been obtained to the perpetrators of the deed. He was shot 
in the body, and his throat cut from ear to ear. -- Athens Banner
