Col. James M. Smith, the millionaire farmer of Oglethorpe County, shows what 
diversified and self-sustaining farming will do.  He started a poor man and in 
debt and now he is one of the richest men in the state.  He has immense beef 
cattle and dairy interests and besides the profits from these he has made his 
lands rich.  When asked concerning the key to his success he replied in 
substance that he made his farm self sustaining and his cotton the profit.
