Eugene Garfield McCannon, 80, of Comer, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006.

A native of Oglethorpe County, he lived all life in the Smithonia area, and 
was the son of the late Daniel and Eldridge Patton McCannon. He was a deacon 
at the Collier Baptist Church. Mr. McCannon was a veteran, having served in 
the Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen McCannon; daughters, Donna Harman, 
Greenville, Dru Tieben, Louisville, Colo., Mary Jean Wilkins, Rock Hill, S.C.; 
a son, Gene McCannon, Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, at Collier Baptist Church with 
the Revs. Richard Coppage and Gerald Brunson officiating. Burial was at the 
Silver Family Cemetery.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.
