Obituary.

PLATT-Edward W. Platt, son of the late Edwin Platt, and former resident of this 
city, died in Los Angeles, Cal., November 27th, 1887, and was buried in 
Lexington, Ga., December 30th, 1887.

Possessing every grace of person and charm of manner, with a brave and generous 
nature, he was the ideal of his parents, and unusually and deservedly popular 
with all who knew him.  Many will remember him as one of the handsomest and 
most brilliant young man who ever adorned Atlanta society.

After the death of his father, young Edward decided to make his home in the 
west, and for the last twelve years has resided in San Francisco.  With a view 
to returning to Georgia, he left San Francisco and went to Los Angeles, where, 
after only a few days' stay, he died.  Of Mr. Platt's immediate family, only 
his widowed mother remains, heart-broken at the irreprable loss of her only 
child, but he has many near relatives to whom his death in the prime and vigor 
of early manhood is a heavy blow and deep sorrow.

Edward W. Platt was born in Lexington, Ga.  In all his wanderings, his heart 
turned with love to his native village, and it was always his request that he 
might sleep the last sleep in its quiet old churchyard, where rest his kindred, 
and beloved father, who had gone before; and there side by side at last the 
father and son awaiting the great awakening, when this mortal shall put on 
immortality, and all the several links of love and happiness be welded anew in 
a great and glorious hereafter.

There lies the soulless clod.
The son eternal brakes,
The new immortal wakes,
Wakes with his God."
