He was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia on October 7, 1928. His parents were Nathaniel Harrison Sanders and Norene Wood Sanders. He married Ruth Mamie Edge on May 2, 1948 in Atlanta. As a youth he attended Salem Church in Oglethorpe County and has been a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Stephens since 1966 where he has served as deacon. He is survived by two brothers, Nathaniel Harrison Sanders and Raymond Delano Sanders; and his six children. His children are Robert Bradley Sanders, Jr. (Brad) of Athens and wife Diane Monaghan Sanders; Linda Lorraine Sanders of Decatur; Edward Victor Sanders (Eddie) of Stephens; Marilyn Sanders Young of Smithonia and husband, Melvin Young; Carol Sanders Smith of Alpharetta and husband Earl Smith; Paul Alan Sanders of Stephens and wife, Tina Suzanne Sanders. His grandchildren are Nathan Sanders, Amanda Clark and husband Brian Clark, Jamie Young, Kelli Young, Erika Smith, Justine Smith, Adrianne Smith, and Courtney Smith (step-granddaughter). His great-grandchildren are Abigail Clark, Alexander Clark, and Brandon Young. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Edge Sanders, and older brother, Henry Carlton Sanders. Robert served two years in the Navy in Pensacola, Florida. After marriage Robert and Ruth moved to Stewart County where they farmed cotton, peanuts, raised beef cattle, and produced eggs for the hatchery business. During that time he also worked as a firefighter at Fort Benning, Georgia. They moved to Stephens, in Oglethorpe County, in 1966 where he farmed full time until retiring. He was a successful poultry grower and tree farmer and is remembered for his drive and tireless work habits.
