This file was contributed by: Barbara Wilson Dooley jb.dooley@verizon.net ==================================================================== Obit for my husband's gt.gt.grandmother. I found it in the Oglethorpe Echo, using the microfilm from the University of Georgia: The Oglethorpe Echo, Friday, 15 Dec 1893 P. 4, Col. 1 "Maxeys Matters Mrs. Turner, mother of Mrs. S. Bailey, died last Tuesday and was buried at the Gilliam burying grounds Wednesday. She was about eighty years old." Note: Mary MATTHEWS was born in 1825, probably in Franklin Co., TN, so the "about eighty years old" is definitely wrong. She married John Baldwin TURNER in Franklin Co. 13 Jan 1843. As early as 1860, they were living in Clarke Co., GA. Baldwin died in 1866, and at some time after that, Mary moved to Maxeys to live with her daughter, Mildred Katherine, and her husband, Samuel Shepherd Bailey. She is buried in the Durham/Gilliam Cemetery near Maxeys, and the tombstone inscription is: "Mrs. Mary M. Turner" 1825-1893 "Mother of Mrs. Katie Bailey" Barbara Wilson Dooley Cullowhee, NC
