This is the plantation home of John Dortch Moss Sr. One of Oglethorpe County Georgia Plantation Owners. At Cherokee Corners. In Oglethorpe County. This family had a large cotton Plantation here. Later the Sons of JD Moss moved to Athens Georgia. To end up owning the Princeton Cotton Mill, the white hall cotton mill. Athens Manufacturing Company and Moss Manufacturing Company. The pioneer Paper Company. To name a few. These businesses were owned by Colonel Rufus Lafayette Moss Sr. John Dortch Moss Jr. From the 1840,s thru the 1880,s Additional Comments: I'm former Mayor of Tallulah Falls Ga. I'm trying to document the movement and the successful families of the John Dortch Moss sr children. Men who built a empire in Athens Georgia that Stretched all the way to Habersham and Rabin Counties in Northeast Georgia. They built a Railroad from Athens to Tallulah Falls Georgia. they bought Tallulah Gorge. They incorporated the town of Tallulah Falls Georgia on October 7 1885. I'd say that's a family the State of Georgia should do a story on. I'm starting right here with this plantation house.
