I, Philemon Edmondson, of the county and state aforesaid, being of sound mind and calling to mind the mortality of man so make this my last will and testament in manner following, to wit: Item 1st - I nominate and appoint my son, William Edmondson, executor with full power to execute and carry into effect this my last will and testament according to the true interest and meaning thereof. Item 2nd - I give and bequeath to my wife, Elizabeth Edmondson, five negroes viz, Harry, Jim, Viney, Henriette and Little Caroline and should any of the aforesaid negroes die before my decease the said Elizabeth is to have others of equal value and the said Elizabeth is to have two beds and furniture. All of the above named property is to be disposed of by the said Elizabeth Edmondson as she may think proper. I also leave for her use and support during her life two good horses, one two horse wagon and gear and so much of my stock of all kinds, household and kitchen furniture and plantation tools as she may think proper to take. Also, the tract of land whereon I now live together with provisions for one year's substance, such as meat, corn, fodder, sugar and coffee, also, wheat and at her death al the last named property to be equally divided between the children of Richard Edmondson, Lucinda Armstrong and my son, William Edmondson - that is for each family to have one third of one equal share. Item 3rd - I give and bequeath to my two grandchildren, Lorenzo and John T. Edmondson, three hundred dollars each and in case of death, then the surviving brother is to have the whole and I do appoint my son, William Edmondson, guardian for the above named children. Item 4th - I give and bequeath to my daughter, Lucinda Armstrong's children one negro girl named Anna and her two children, Jim and Abram, also, one third part of all my property not herein mentioned, but for my daughter Lucinda, to have the use of the property during her life. Item 5th - I give and bequeath to my son, William Edmondson, the third part of my property that is on equal part with the children of Lucinda Armstrong, exclusive of the three negroes. Item 6th - I give and bequeath to my son-in-law, George Armstrong, five dollars in cash. Item 7th - I give and bequeath to the children of Richard Edmondson the third part of all my property, not bequeathed in the first item, that is an equal part with William Edmondson and Lucinda Armstrong's children. Item 8th - for fear of dispute, I desire that the tract of land whereon my daughter-in-law Matilda Edmondson, now lives be sold and the proceeds be equally divided heretofore mentioned relative to the other property. Item 9th - I do hereby appoint my son, William Edmondson, guardian for Lucinda Armstrong's children and Richard Edmondson's children, to manage the property until the come of age. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal to this my last will and testament this first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine.
