Will of William Glenn 23 Feb 1860 Oglethorpe County, GA Will of William Glenn 23 February 1860 Oglethorpe County, Georgia In the name of God, Amen, I William GLENN of the county of Oglethorpe and State of Georgia, knowing the uncertainty of life and being at this time in feeble health, but believing myself of sound, disposing mind and memory, wish to make a disposition of what worldly goods & effects I may be possessed of at my death in the manner & form following, to wit. Item 1st My wish is that my body be decently buried and that all my just debts be paid. Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary H. GLENN absolutely and at her own disposal one Negro girl by the name of SILVA, three beds, bedsteds & furniture, two of them the beds that she had at our marriage & one other bed & furniture of her choice with bed clothing sufficient to make them comfortable and a beaurow & red bottom Rocking chair and one blue sideboard. Item 3rd I give and bequeath unto my wife during her natural life or widowhood, to wit, a certain boundary of land, viz, beginning at a corner on the Augusta Road near my blacksmith shop, thence bounded around by Wm. W. DAVENPORT’s line to the Augusta Road again at said DAVENPORT’s gate, thence up the road to the cross fence, thence along the fence to a rock c___, thence a straight line to a corner on Mrs. Sarah HUFF’s ___ line, thence on Mrs. HUFF’s line to ___ road, thence down said road to the Augusta Road thence up the road to the beginning corner; and five Negoes, Anthony a man, Henry a man, Anne a woman and her child Bernard, Rose a girl, and two horses & mules of her own choice, one good yoke of oxen & a cart, and my blacksmith tools, four cows & calves of her choice, fifteen head stock hogs, ten head sheep of her choice, and one year provision of corn, fodder, oats and wheat & pork or bacon, my Gin & running gear, plantation tools sufficient for her use, kitchen furniture, one loom, two spinning wheels and cards, and clock. Two small tables, tin door safe, cupboard, one set split bottom chairs, a sufficiency of crockery and glassware, knives & forks, spoons, also my buggy and harness. My intention is that all that I have given in this item at the death or marriage of my wife to return back to my estate and be equally divided among my children and grandchildren as hereafter directed to be done with the balance of my estate. Item 4th I wish all the remainder of my estate at my death not disposed of in the third item, and all my children that I have not given off any property to, the balance of my estate then to be equally divided between all my children and grandchildren that is now fatherless or motherless or that may be at my death to receive a child’s part. My wish and desire if it can be done equally that any Negroes be divided instead of being sold and the other property all sold. Item 5th I hereby constitute and appoint my two sons, Thomas L. GLENN and George R.G. GLENN my executors to this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills heretofore made by me.
