Will of Miles Jennings, 1840, Oglethorpe Co. GA Submitted by Barbara Walker Winge Miles Jennings State of Georgia Oglethrope County March Term 1840 In the name of God Amen I Miles Jennings of the County of Oglethrope & State of Georgia being of Sound mind & disposing memory do now make and constitute this my last Will & Testament in manner & form as follows (to wit), I will first of all that all my last debts be truly & punctually paid together with all my burial & funeral expenses. Item the second. I will to my Brother Soloman Jennings all my land & plantation the same whereon I now live together with my Stock of Hogs, Sheep, & Cattle, also all my farming & plantation utensils my waggons & Gear also two negroes Aney a woman & Alfred A man & that the whole of my Negroes Remain together & make the Crop commenced & my Brother Soloman Jennings after the payment of my debts as foresaid shall have the whole of the Crop of Corn & Cotton so made & four mules to him his heirs & Assigns forever - Item the Third. I will to my loving wife Sarah Jennings five negroes (to wit) Amey a woman & her child a boy by the name of Wiley. Also one Negro Woman Viney Lummer a boy and John a boy three feather bedsteads and furniture of her choice all my Household and Kitchen furniture of every description with two Horses her Choice of my Stock to her her Heirs & assigns forever- Item the fourth. I will to my Brother in Law George W. Bottom One Negro Man by the name of Stephen & one Horse after the choice of my Loving wife as aforesaid. Item the fifth - I will to my friend and Neighbor Peter P. Butler my cart & steers at the end of the year as named in the second item. As to all the Remaining part of my estate not herein before mentioned I leave that whether bonds notes due or demands or of Whatsoever kind it may be in the hands of my Brother Soloman (the whole Remaining together as in Item the second) Confiding in him to do with it as I shal give him direction- & I now revoke all former wills by me made. Ratifying & Confirming this & this only my last Will & testament & I do now Appoint my testor & well beloved friends Peter P. Butler & David Mattox my Executors to carry into effect the same Witness my hand & seal this twenty fourth day of January One thousand eight hundred & forty Miles Jennings (LL) Attest James Bell Cir.
