Ordinary Office In the name of God amen. I Lewis Pope of the county of oglethorpe & state of Georgia being weak of body, but of sound mind & memory blessed be God, do this twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & three, make & publish this my last will & testament in manner following, that is to say Impresses, I will & bequeath my soul to god, & I desire that my body may be directly interred in the earth- Item I lend unto my well beloved wife Jemima Pope the tract of land & plantation whereon I now live, together with all the property of whatsoever kind belonging or appertaining there to, not hereafter mentioned & willed away, during her natural life, upon, & with which She is to take & Educate my two youngest Children viz Zachariah & Patsy, & at & after, her decease, it is my will & desire that all my property, then belonging or of right appertaining to the estate, & not thereafter willed away (her own apparel excluded, which she shall be at liberty to dispose of as she thinks proper) Shall be valued, or appraised, as hereafter dictated, & the amount of that appraisement, & the amount of the property willed away, including the land, of which a valuation is annexed, Shall be added together & the sum total divided by the number of my children, their living or having Issue, & those who have received, or attained property, to a greater amount than the quotient Made by such division, shall refund, or pay backs to the executors the over plus & the Executors shall pay to all those who have received a life sum that the said quotient a sum sufficient to make equal with or in property at the appraisement or in cash In order to prevent a sale of my negroes it is my will & desire, that those not willed away Shall be drawn for by lottery, after the decease of my well beloved wife or go to such of my children as they chuse provided the executors will agree thereto, who shall Receive them at the appraisement- Item, I will & bequeath unto my daughter Polly Ridley Jourdan one negro woman named Anaka at the Valuation of three hundred & fifty dollars also one bed & furniture, both of which she has now in Possession- Item, I will & bequeath unto my son Archelus Pope the tract of land whereon he now lives, containing two hundred acres, at the valuation of eight hundred- also one negro man named Sinas at the value of two hundred also one bed & furniture, all of which he has now in his possession- Item, I will & bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca Ogelvie one negro woman named Mary at the valuation of three hundred & fifty dollars also one bed & furniture both of which she has now in possession- Item, I will and bequeath unto my daughter Betsy Pope one negro Girl named Amey, & one negro boy named Patrick, to be valued or appraised, as hereafter directed, & taken at the valuation also one bed & furniture, Item, I will and bequeath unto my daughter Jemima Phillips one negro woman named Vistel at the value of three hundred & fifty dollars also one bed & furniture, both of which she has now in possession, Item, I will & bequeath unto my sons Willis Pope & Zachariah Pope, after the decease of my well beloved wife the tract of land whereon I now live to Be divided between them in the most convenient Manner, the part whereon the mansion house stands, to belong to Zachariah, & the other part to Willis, the whole to be valued or appraised as hereafter directed & taken at the valuation- Also, I will & bequeath unto my son Willis one negro Boy named Alek to be valued or appraised as hereafter Directed & taken at the valuation, also I will and bequeath to my son Zachariah one negro boy named George to be valued or appraised as hereafter directed & taken at the valuation- Item, I will & bequeath unto my daughter Patsy Pope one negro Girl named Jenny & one negro boy named Isaac to be valued, or appraised as hereafter directed & taken at the valuation, also I will & bequeath unto my said daughter Patsy one bed & furniture & one desk. Item, I will & bequeath to each of my children a horse creature of the value of one hundred dollars, to be ascertained as hereafter directed, & to be paid as soon after my decease as convenient; provided that this bequest do not extend to such of my children to whom I have given a horse creature to in my life time- It is my will & desire that my exs should chuse three or more fit persons to ascertain the value of the land, negroes & other property willed away, which I have directed to be valued or appraised, who shall act on Oath- I do hereby nominate & appoint my well beloved wife Jemima Pope executrix & my son Archelus Pope & my son in law George Phillips Exs of this my last will & testament in witness whereof I the said Lewis Pope have to this my last will & testament put my hand & affixed my seal to day & year above written- Signed & sealed & published } Lewis Pope (sig) (seal) In the presents of us } & In presents of each other } Alex Lestor } Wm.
