I Matthew Rainey, of the county and state aforesaid, being of sound mind and disposing memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in the manner and form following, viz: Item. It is my will to ensure that my wife, Judith Rainey, have the use and possession of my whole estate, both use and possession during her natural life to make use of as she may think proper for her support and comfort, except the selling of the land and negroes and it is hereby understood that my wife may and I do desire that my afflicted granddaughter Adaline Rainey, if she should be in distress at any time, my wife may share her distress in doing or giving to her whatever she may think proper out of any part of my property except the land or negroes and in like manner, to any other child or grandchild. Item. My will and desire is that after my death and the death of my wife, Judith Rainey, my son Wootson Rainey, in conformity of ___ment of writing entered into between myself and him which is recorded in the Clerk^Òs Office of said county, he the said Wootson have to enjoy my negro boy George and my negro girl Toner? And her increase, and all of my land and premises whereon I now live, and one-half of the crop which may be on said plantation when we die, or the last one of us. Yet it is to be understood that the said Wootson is to maintain and take care of old Bhaff(?) If living, and make a substantial stone wall around my graveyard including the whits(?). Item. And lastly, my will and desire is that after the death of myself and wife, I give my negro woman Ginny; stock of all hinder(?) horses, cattle, sheep, hogs; plantations and farming utensils; and household and kitchen furniture to the following children and grandchildren, to wit: Joyce T. Johnson, Judith Lansford, Lucy Ann Bowling, living children Josiah Rainey^Òs orphans, Matthew F. Rainey Polley B. Franklin, James M. Rainey, Wootson Rainey, John B. Rainey^Òs orphan child Adaline Rainey, and William B. Rainey^Òs orphans Harriet W. Rainey and Wm. B. Rainey Jr. Each family of orphans only to share their father^Òs or mother^Òs part as the case may be, and should I draw or have drawn land in the present land lottery, my will is that my son Wootson Rainey share equal with the rest of my children and grandchildren in the land lottery. And lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife , Judith Rainey, Executor and Wootson Rainey, Executor, to this my last will and testament, revoking all others in testimony whereof I have hereunto fixed my hand and seal this 3rd day of January of the year of our Lord, 1833.
