Will of John Winfrey Jr. of Oglethorpe Co. GA Submitted by Janice (Johnston) Martin Will of John Winfrey (Jr.) of Oglethorpe County, GA In the name of GOD, Amen. I, John Winfrey, of Oglethorpe County and state of Georgia, being low in health but of sound mind and taking into consideration the uncertainty of life and knowing that it is appointed all men to die, do make and ordain this, my last will and testament, and by this do revoke all former wills. First Item: It is my will and desire after my death that my body shall be buried in a decent and Christian-like manner, all my just debts paid, and the balance of my property divided among my children as follows. Seconds Item: I give unto my son, William Winfrey, one Negro man named Carey (who is since dead), one Negro girl named Nancy, with the bed and cow and calf that he already has received from me. Third Item: I give unto my daughter, Frances E. Williams, one Negro woman named Dorcas, with her increase, one boy named Robin, with the bed and furniture, cow and calf that she has already had from me. Fourth Item: I give unto the children of my daughter, Elizabeth C. Gresham, fifty dollars in addition to what they and their mother have already had, and at my death, to have their mother's part of this balance of my estate. Fifth Item: I give unto my son, Richard R. Winfrey, one Negro man named Moses and Negro girl named Harriet, one bed and furniture, cow and calf. Sixth Item: It is my will and desire that my son, Peter B. Winfrey, have one Negro man named Hall, and, at my death, a Negro girl named Sarah and her increase. I also give my son, Peter, one bed and furniture, cow and calf, and it is my wish that the above named property, whatsoever may be coming to him at my death, be placed in the hands of William Winfrey and Edward Cox and Richard R. Winfrey to manage and allow him a support out of the profits of the above property and nothing more. It is my will and desire that if any of my children should die without lawful issue, that the property I have given them shall revert back and be divided among my other children. It is also my desire that Richard R. Winfrey take the property that I give my daughter Elizabeth C. Gresham's children into his hands to superintend and manage until the children become of age. It is my desire that the land lying in Hall County, also, all my lands in this county, shall be sold and the money arising therefrom be equally divided among my children, my daughter Elizabeth C. Gresham's children to have an equal part. The balance of my estate that is not disposed of shall be sold and an equal division made of same except my Negroes, which is my desire shall be equally divided among my children, my daughter, Elizabeth C. Gresham's children having an equal part. It is my will and desire that William Winfrey, Richard R. Winfrey, and Edward Cox be my Executors to carry my above will into effect.
