Born in Gadsden, Alabama, he was the son of the late Wiley and Pearl Smith Bellamy. He retired from General Motors Lakewood Plant. He was a member of Peoples Baptist Church. He was a member of the UAW Local 34; Lakewood Lodge #443 F. & A. M., a 32nd degree Mason of the Atlanta Scottish Rite Bodies, the Yaarab Shrine Temple of Atlanta. Honorary member of the Yaarab Temple Entertainers Band, the Tara Shrine of Forest Park; a member of the Hall of Honor and a Pioneer Award recipient of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Bellamy, who passed away on May 12, 2004 and his brother Claud Bellamy. Surviving are his daughter, Brenda Patrick of Jonesboro; his son and daughter- in-law, Rev. Dennis and Sheila Bellamy of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Shelly Palmer of Hiram, Christie Graham of Dallas, Kevin Munson and Angie Cooper, both of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Logan Palmer of Hiram, Laithan and Colton Graham of Dallas. Funeral Services were held Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bellamy Funeral Home with Reverends Dennis Bellamy and Todd Chatham officiating. Interment followed in Paulding Memorial Gardens. Bellamy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
