Marilu H. Cantrell, age 99 of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, 
June 17, 2004 at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.

Mrs. Cantrell was born June 3, 1905 in Sugar Hill, Georgia, daughter of the 
late J.Z. and Sally (Tanner) Hudgins. She attended Chattahoochee High School, 
Oglethorpe University and West Georgia College. She became a teacher, teaching 
in the Georgia Public School system in Hall County, Cherokee County, Cobb 
County and Paulding County. One of her third grade students was Roy Barnes, 
former governor of Georgia. She was also a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, 
serving in many capacities at the churches pastured by her late husband, Rev. 
J.W. Cantrell, which included Sunday school teacher, pianist, Bible School 
Director and visiting the sick. She was a fine housekeeper, cook, seamstress 
and gardener.

Survivors include her son, Wesley E. Cantrell of Atlanta; daughter, Joanne 
Cantrell Croker of Anderson, SC; sisters, Dot Hudgins Shaw and Marjorie 
Hudgins Morris; 7 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. 
James Wesley Cantrell; six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with 
Rev. Wesley E. Cantrell, Jr. and Rev. Paul Brown officiating.

Interment followed in Kennesaw Memorial Park.

The McDougald Funeral Home, Inc. Anderson, SC was in charge of arrangements.
