Born on October 1, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Maston Elihew and Frances Bowman Tibbitts. She married Amos Corley on May 7, 1938 and they had ten children. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1984. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, a devout Christian, an incredible lady of great character, a pillar of the community, and a source of strength and wisdom to all who knew her. She taught her children by example to work hard, always stressing education, independence and pride in the task at hand. Her legacy is one of high morals, honesty, integrity, strength, dignity and honor. Farming was the family’s primary livelihood and she installed a strong work ethic. She was industrious and creative with sewing, quilting, embroidery and other arts. She would see a quilt pattern in the Georgia Market Bulletin, or a dress on display in a store window, and create her own design. Known for her love of hats, she wore them with flair for her own and other’s enjoyment. Music was a source of comfort and inspiration in her life. She would sing a cappella many of the old Sacred Harp hymns, and many hours were spent singing with family members at the piano or just listening to music for relaxation. Heritage was important to her; she entertained her family, friends, visitors, doctors and nurses with poems and stories which had been passed down from generation to generation. She had a very sharp, inquisitive mind. She earned a Teacher’s Certificate from the University of Georgia, Division Extension on June 8, 1932. She was a member of the Captain Edward Hagin Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include 10 children: Naomi and Hubert Holland of Marietta, Catherine Wilson of Acworth, Virginia Casey of Austell, Mary and Gary White of Dallas, Douglas and Betty Corley of Dallas, Edward and Brenda Corley of Dallas, Audrey and Rick Baxter of Jasper, Rose Marie and Richard Parker of Dallas, Wanda Haight of Dallas, and Bonnie and Wayne Morris of Dallas; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
