Death of a Normal Student

Miss Anna R. Crossman, of Lumpkin, GA, a student at the state normal college 
died of congestion at the residence of Prof. J. R. Bailey, 183 S. Summer St., 
yesterday morning. Miss Crossman was appointed by the Georgia authorities, two 
years ago, to fill one of the Peabody scholarships. She had a pleasing manner 
and made friends with everyone whom she came in contact. Her family has been 
telegraphed to and are expected here this morning.

Miss Crossman's Funeral

The funeral of Miss Ann R. Crossman, of Lumpkin, Ga., in the chapel of the 
State Normal college yesterday morning, was largely attended. The teachers and 
pupils of the college and the Montgomery Bell academy, State Superintendent 
Leon Trousdale, Dr. J. Berrien Lindsley and A. V. S. Lindsley, of the state 
board of education and many friends of the deceased were present. All the 
Normal students from Georgia wore badges of morning and the college chapel was 
draped in mourning. Messrs. Gilbert, Crutcher and Dowlin, members of the 
senior class, acted as pallbearers. Rev. G. S. Williams, pastor of the Central 
Baptist church, opened the services with reading of the Scriptures and prayer. 
Rev. D. Thomas A. Hoyt then delivered a brief, but beautiful and appropriate 
address. The exercises which were interspersed with music, were then concluded 
by Rev. W. M. Leftwich, pastor of Elm Street Church, of which Miss Crossman 
was a member. The remains were interred at Mt. Olivet, Dr. Leftwich reading 
the burial service. The young men who are attending the college from Georgia --
 Messrs. A. W. Starke, J. A. Noyes, W. C. Johnson, V. E. Orr, C. D. Maddox and 
Mr. Glenn --acted as pallbearers. The senior class, with which Miss Crossman 
would have graduated, and the students from Georgia, met and adopted suitable 
resolutions of regret.
