The Paulding New Era, February 15, 1883 
It is always sad to have to chronicle the death of any one, but especially is 
it so when a young man dies in the very zenith of manhood and usefulness. 

Mr. Gilbert Dockings, a young man in the employ of Mr. Quinton at his 
extensive saw mill near the Tunnel; died of typhoid fever last Thursday night 
about 8 o’clock.  It will be great consolation to his friends and relatives to 
learn that Mr. Dockings did not lack for anything that kindness and human 
sympathy could prompt for his aid and comfort.  Mr. Quinton took him in his 
own house, procured the best medical skill in the person of Dr. Raines, and 
together with his accomplished daughters, Mrs. Henry Davis and Mrs. Gibbs, 
they did all in their power that experience could suggest.
