The Paulding New Era, August 23, 1883
Died, at Villa Rica, last Saturday morning, suddenly, of some kidney disease, 
Eugene Duval, familiarly known in Dallas as “Major.”  

The old Major was a native of France, had served in her armies in the “lang 
syne,” had traveled extensively through the old and the new world.  His 
observation was acute; his research and learning quite liberal.  Genial by 
nature and urban in manners, characteristic of his nationality.  

Major was engaged with Rev. J.R.T. Brown in the tin and house furnishing 
business here for awhile, and lately at Villa Rica.  The tin roof of the New 
Era and drug store building was placed by the Major.  

He has relatives in Charleston, S.C.  

The Major was neatly placed away by friends.
