Flanagan, Jr. Passes Oct. 31 Minister Thomas Carlton Flanagan, Jr. , age 71, of Axis, Alabama, passed away October 31, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Flanagan was born February 16, 1933 in Athens, Georgia, son of the late Thomas Carlton and Gertrude (McGarity) Flanagan, Sr. He graduated from Davidson College in the spring of 1957 with a major in chemistry and worked as a chemist from 1957 to 1964. Thomas was called to be a minister and attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA from 1964 – 1967. He served as pastor of rural and small town churches in West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee from 1967 to 1996 when forced to retire on disability because of Parkinson’s Disease. Surviving are his wfe of 45 years, Mrs. Lynn Lane Flanagan of Axis, Alabama; son, Timothy Flanagan of Atlanta; daughter, Fay Flanagan Wright (and her husband Thomas Wright) of Axis, Alabama; two grandchildrenm Kaitlin and Lane Wright of Axis, Alabama and Lane Wright of Axis, Alabama; sister, Elsie Ann Felix of Blairsville, GA; brother Patrick Flanagan of Blairsville, GA; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends and loved ones around the world. Funeral Services were conducted on Friday, November 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in Benson Chapel with Rev. Burt Eyster officiating. Special musice was rendered by Andrew “Drew” Lane accompanied by Charles Cole at the piano. Interment followed in the Lane Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jesse Arildsen, David Lane, Mike Hartley, Bill Thompson, Drew Lane, Noel Lane, and Ed Butler. Benson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
