Mr. Hendon retired from Georgia Highway Express in 1976 after 33 years of service, he achieved numerous safe driver awards. He was a licensed Baptist preacher and ordained deacon., He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Douglasville. He was a former member of Zion View Baptist Church for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Grace Hardin Hendon; daughter and son- in-law Jean and Ralph Carson of Powder Springs; daughters, Laverne Hendon and Sharon Hendon, both of Hiram; sons and daughters-in-law, Wilburn and Francie Hendon of Marietta and Wayne and Amy Hendon of Covington; son, Dr. David Hendon of Waco, Texas; brother, Luther Hendon of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Kim Tysor of Coronada, CA, Mark Hendon of Dallas, Alison Lewis of Dallas, Joshua Hendon of Covington, and Dannielle Hendon of Covington; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Marbut, Rev. Billy Ray and Rev. Jerry Hendon officiating. Interment followed in Crestlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, Austell was in charge of arrangements.
