Joe’s passion was his job, driving a truck for most of his life. He never met a stranger, and was always willing to stop and help someone; always going the extra mile for someone in need, often going without himself. He was also an Eagle Scout and he received many awards for saving the life of Ricky Harris in 1975. For many years, he was a single parent, loving and raising his son, Jeffrey, as best as he could. Jeffrey was his life and he loved him like no other. He was loved deeply by his niece and nephew, Cameron and Anslee Cole, to whom he had a very close relationship with. To them he was a perfect uncle, always bringing them candy and would make them believe he was pulling it out of their ears. Always joking andplaying with them. He left a big void in our lives and hearts that can never be filled. Rest now brother, you no longer have the struggles, pain, and heat breaks you had here with us. To leave your love in the hearts you left behind is not to die. We loved you so much and we will miss you always. He is survived by his mother, Helen Kato of Hiram; son Jeffrey Kato of Powder Springs; sister of his heart and soul, Lisa Cole of Hiram; brother-in-law and best friend, Allen Cole of Hiram; sister of whom he loved with all his being, Julia Long of Lithia Springs, Cameron Cole of Hiram and Matt’s fiancé, Jennifer Blaxe, also of Lithia Springs; nieces, Amber Bone of Powder Springs, and Anslee Cole of Hiram, whom were the beat of his heart; cousins, Sandra Nicholson and her husband Kenny, who was also a best friend, and their family; Theresa and Steve Cochranof Smyrna and family; extended family, Rose Cole of Austell, and Allen, Kim & Jennifer McNelis of Dallas. Joe was preceded in death by our Daddy, Harvey (Blackie) Kato, in February 1988; our brother-in-law David Long, in May 1989; our aunt, Edna Kato in 2001 and our beloved sister Carol Kato Bone in November 2003.
