Lawrence Dr. Joe I. Matthews signed the death certificate: Nov. 26, 1949 Additional Comments: The informant is listed as John Baxter, also known as Johnny H. Baxter, who is my father. NOTE: Elmer's father was Sanford H. Baxter. My father, the informant on this document, states Elmer's father was John Baxter. This is not a true statement. I have documented from two census records (1900, 1910) that Sanford H. Baxter was the father of Elmer F. Baxter. The reason my father made this misstake is this. My father told me he was named after his two grandfathers. Ones name was John Marion Tant, the other was Sanford H. Baxter. Sanford's nickname was Sanny or Sandy, and that is probably what my father heard him referred to and thought his first name was John, when acually John was the name of his mother's father. I have tried to explain this mix up for the readers here and for the generations after me, who may also read this. NOTE: The date of death on the death certificate states that Elmer F. Baxter died Nov. 12, 1949. His tombstone states that he died Nov. 11, 1949. Being an official document the date of death on the death certificate would be correct.
