He was called Lon by all who knew him, and I believe this led Wendell Croom to incorrectly record his name as Leonidas in the War History of the 6th Georgia Regiment, the Beauregard Volunteers. Alonzo (Leonidas) Pratt Sledge was born in 1841 and died 23 March 1896. =================================== Mr L.P. Sledge, a citizen of this County (Houston), died on Mar 23, 1896. He was fifty-five years old. He was one of the "Immortal Nine" of the Beauredgard Volunteers Co. 6th Georgia Regiment. Mr Sledge leaves a wife and five children. The two oldest daughters are married and the other three; two boys and a girl, are quite small and young.
