Signed by Elijah Watson [no title but apparently solemnized by him]. 12 February 1889, Declaration of Allen Stanfield of Pickens county, State of Georgia. Resident of said State continually since 10 March 1875; enlisted CSA as Private 10 March 1863, Company B, 43rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteers, Stovall & Stewart’s Brigade. Wounded at Battle of Kesacca 15 May 1864 by gun shot wound in right arm between elbow & shoulder; that 5 inches of the bone was taken out so that said right arm hangs limp and is totally useless. [Signed] Allen Stanfield Examination by physicians F. C. Richards and W. A. Richards of said county/state confirmed. Allen Stanfield appointed W. H. Simmons, Pickens Co, GA as attorney to receive pension amounts [$50.00; warrant #1569 dated 24 February 1891]. 24 February 1891, Warrant #1569 authorized, $50.00. [State of Georgia required pensioners re-apply annually; declarations same is that of 12 February 1889 are through 1907 – mlj]. 24 September 1913, Declaration of Pensioner states he lives at Talking Rock, Pickens Co, GA; enlisted 4 March 1963 [sic] at Jasper, Pickens Co, GA. Shot 13 May 1864 at Kensaca, GA, was sent to Atlanta hospital by authority of Col. Kellogg. “My arm was shot all to pieces”. Captured at Vicksburg, MS July 4th [no year given] and released July 6th on parole. Own 40 acres land, value $500; household goods $35; stock $81; Wagon & Buggy $35; Total value of all $621.00. McClain affirming Allen Stanfield’s statement. 8 February 1918, Pickens County, GA, Mary Stanfield, widow of Allen Stanfield who died in Pickens Co on 2 Jan 1918, and at the time of his death a pension of $80.00 was owed him. States they married 11 March 1858 in Pickens county, Georgia. Mary [her X mark] Stanfield 11 Oct 1918, Pickens County, GA, M. Morrison & T. C. Richards state they know Mary Stanfield and Allen Stanfield; knew of his death; were present at marriage. 23 March 1922, invoice from Cagle Bros, Talking Rock, Georgia, $30.00 for furnishing home made casket for Mrs. Mary Stanfield. 20 July, 1922, Talking Rock, Pickens County, Georgia, invoice from J. S. Darnell, M.D. for treatment of Mary Stanfield just prior to her death. Last visit March 16, 1922.
