Jasper, Ga., September 20- W. L. Cape, Pickens county officer, was buried today at Hinton, about 10 miles from here, when one of the largest crowds ever to attend a funeral in this section gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran law enforcement officer. Law and order, which the slain officer was endeavoring to uphold when he was shot down late Saturday afternoon while he is believed to have been attempting to search an automobile for liquor, was represented by many law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Gaddis, of Bartow county; Sheriff Cochran, of Gordon county; Sheriff Saunders, of Cobb county, and many other officials. Friends from every part of this section listened when Colonel Sam Tate, of Tate, Ga., told how Mr. Cape was "one of the staunchest enforcers of the law his county ever had had." The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Mr. Cook. Mr. Cape leaves his wife and four children, two sons and two daughters. Lindsey Evans, who is charged with the slaying, has not been apprehended, although his arrest is expected soon. Local officers state that they had information Evans is hiding about 20 miles southwest of Jasper.
