Pettett, a prominent farmer living 6 miles west of this place, committed suicide yesterday morning. His son found him in the shuckhouse swinging by a rope which had been fastened to the rafter of the house. His wife had prepared breakfast and sent the boy for his father. He had been dead but a short while, but all efforts to bring him to life again failed. Pettett was a good citizen, in good circumstances, and his neighbors and friends can’t account for his deed. His home life is all that could be desired and he was a member of the Baptist church and had been for many years. He leaves a wife and three children and a large host of kinfolk. Pettett was a son of John E. Pettett, one of the most prominent citizens of the county and one of its best farmers.
