This alarmed the convicts. Mr. Robinson, one of them, jumped in front and fell. The hand car ran over him and crushed his chest. He died in a few minutes. The death of Mr. Robinson was purely accidental. One of the negroes also jumped and was badly bruised. The other one remained and escaped injury. Mr. Robinson was quite a favorite in camps, on account of his reliability. Gen. Phillips had him buried decently, after having an inquest.
